Why “Emergency Action and Fire Prevention—Spanish” Matters:

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) estimates that approximately 200 workplace deaths and 5,000 workplace injuries each year are due to fire, one of the most common types of emergencies.

In one recent year, OSHA issued more than 300 citations for violations of its rule on Emergency Action Plans.

Safety experts all agree that knowing how to act quickly and properly in an emergency is the key to saving lives and preventing injuries.

Required by 29 CFR 1910, Subpart E.

Key Points:

  • Fires, chemical discharges, natural disasters, and workplace violence are leading causes of workplace emergencies.
  • Measures to prevent emergencies are much easier and safer to implement than emergency response.
  • The first thing to do in the event of an emergency is to remove yourself from danger and alert others to the hazard.
  • Use firefighting equipment only if trained.
  • Know your role in an evacuation. If you have any questions or concerns, ask your supervisor.
